Young Explorers
About the Program
Young Explorers is a program for 2 and 3 year olds. Why are we focused on this age group? When Leslie Kola was looking for a preschool program for her 2 year old children, she was continually turned away until they were 2.9 years old. However, at RaynWater STEAM we know that these young children also need the opportunities offered in a preschool setting. In our Young Explorers program, children will learn to play with new peers, separate from caregivers, expand their curiosities about the world around them, and have fun with nature and all things STEAM.

STEAM and Young Learners
Can children of this age really engage in STEAM: science, technology, engineering, and mathematics integrated with the arts? Yes! Children are natural scientists, always observing the world around them. They are creative engineers, continually tinkering with and testing the limits with toys, blocks, and other objects. They are innovative artists, unafraid of what their products will be like. They are keen technologists, wanting to use every tool around them for trying out tasks. And, they are marvelous mathematicians becoming aware of numbers, size and scale, patterns, and how to sort and count objects they are using. Your child is capable of all of these things, and we cannot wait to help them learn it!
Young Explorers Approach
We work to attain our mission by:
providing authentic, real-world, and child-driven STEAM exploration, play, and problem solving.
maintaining a safe physical, social, and emotional environment for children with caring adults who value all students’ perspectives and experiences.
building positive relationships with our program families and the local community.
promoting cooperation, collaboration, and respect among children and between children and adults, including specialists, professionals, teachers, and people of diverse backgrounds.
engaging children in creative and innovative problem solving that promotes their own and others’ curiosity and wondering about the world around them.
continually learning, evaluating, and reflecting on our teaching and curriculum, its impact on the children in our care, and its correlation to our mission and goals.
