After the cancellation of the Prelim Prep courses at UC Davis, Ryan Chris Moreno-Vasquez and I organized prelim prep bootcamps to prepare the first and second years for the prelim exams. I also ran an informal workshop starting fall quarter 2021 for the first years, which met every Saturday at noon. I taught the Algebra prelim prep course.
The spring 2022 bootcamp took place on March 20-23, 2022. Each day consisted of three 2-hour sessions, consisting of 30 minutes of review, 1 hour of independent problem solving time, then 30 minutes of a brief discussion of the solutions. The topics for the sessions alternated between Groups, Rings/Modules, and Galois Theory.
Schedule:
10am-12pm Session 1
12-1 Lunch break
1-3 Session 2
3-4 Break
4-6 Session 3
The bootcamp was an outstanding success, almost everyone attending having passed. You can find a collection of TeX for the problem sets here.
Alongside my duties teaching 250B (Graduate Algebra II), I also ran weekly prep sessions parallel to the material covered in class. The session met every Saturday from noon onward. You can find a collection of TeX for the problem sets here.
