The NBR Price Trend in India moved sharply higher during Q2 2026 as global supply chains faced serious pressure from geopolitical tensions, disruptions in shipping routes, and rising feedstock costs.
Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR) is widely used in oil seals, hoses, gaskets, automotive components, industrial products, and protective equipment, so changes in its raw material costs can quickly affect downstream buyers.
During the first part of the quarter, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz created uncertainty around the movement of crude oil, naphtha, butadiene, and acrylonitrile. As supply became tighter, production and import costs increased across several markets.
Toward June, however, easing tensions and the gradual return of normal shipping flows helped the market cool down.

Understanding the NBR Market
NBR is a synthetic rubber mainly produced from butadiene and acrylonitrile. Its resistance to oil, fuel, chemicals, and heat makes it an important material for many industrial applications.
Automotive manufacturers use NBR in seals, gaskets, hoses, and other components where resistance to oils and fuels is important. It is also used in industrial machinery, oil and gas applications, footwear, adhesives, and various molded rubber products.
Because NBR depends on petrochemical feedstocks, its pricing is closely connected with developments in the energy and chemical markets. When crude oil and naphtha prices rise, the impact can move through the supply chain and eventually reach rubber producers and buyers. This relationship became especially visible during Q2 2026.
What Drove NBR Prices Higher in Q2 2026?
The main factor behind the increase was disruption in regional trade caused by the Middle East conflict and the temporary closure of the Strait of Hormuz. This route is extremely important for energy and petrochemical movements. Any disruption can create concerns about the availability and cost of raw materials.
During the early part of Q2, reduced naphtha flows affected feedstock availability across Asia. Since naphtha is an important starting material for producing petrochemicals, lower availability placed pressure on downstream materials such as butadiene and acrylonitrile. NBR producers consequently faced higher input costs.
Crude oil prices also increased sharply during the initial phase of the quarter. Higher energy costs added another layer of pressure for manufacturers and distributors. At the same time, shipping costs and marine insurance premiums increased because traders and importers faced greater risks while arranging cargoes.
The result was a broad increase in NBR prices across Asia, Europe, and North America.
NBR Price Chart Shows Strong Q2 Increase
The NBR Price Chart for Q2 2026 shows a clear upward movement during April and May, followed by a correction in June. This pattern was visible in several major markets, although the size of the increase and subsequent correction varied from one country to another.
South Korea recorded an increase of around 44% during the quarter. Japan experienced an even stronger rise of around 50%. France saw prices increase by more than 45%, while Indonesia recorded an increase of more than 40%.
India also experienced a significant increase, with domestic NBR prices rising by around 35% during Q2. The United States recorded an increase of more than 45%, while China saw a comparatively smaller quarterly increase of more than 15%.
These movements show how a supply disruption in one part of the global petrochemical network can affect NBR markets in different regions.
NBR Price Trend in South Korea
South Korea experienced one of the strongest price increases during Q2. NBR export prices increased by around 44% as disruptions in Middle Eastern energy flows reduced the availability of naphtha and tightened the supply of important feedstocks.
Export restrictions and efforts to avoid excessive stockpiling added to the limited availability of material. This kept the market firm during much of the quarter.
However, conditions changed in June. The late-Q2 ceasefire between the US and Iran and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz improved the movement of energy and petrochemical materials. Feedstock costs started to ease, and NBR prices in South Korea corrected by around 11%.
NBR Price Trend in Japan
Japan recorded a quarterly NBR price increase of around 50%, making it one of the strongest movements among the markets covered.
The country faced supply pressure because disruptions along important shipping routes affected the movement of butadiene and acrylonitrile. Planned maintenance and unexpected outages at local crackers further reduced butadiene availability.
With fewer spot cargoes available, buyers competed more actively for material. This helped push prices higher during the first two months of the quarter.
In June, the situation became more balanced. Improved shipping conditions and lower feedstock costs helped NBR prices in Japan decline by around 7%.
NBR Price Trend in France
The French market recorded an NBR price increase of more than 45% in Q2 2026. The European market faced pressure from higher energy costs and restricted petrochemical availability.
Disruptions to energy flows pushed gas and crude prices higher. Low gas storage levels also increased concerns about energy costs for industrial producers. At the same time, maintenance activity and unexpected production outages affected the availability of butadiene and acrylonitrile.
Strong demand for spot cargoes added further pressure. As geopolitical tensions eased toward the end of the quarter, feedstock costs declined. NBR prices in France corrected by around 1% in June.
NBR Price Trend in Indonesia
Indonesia recorded an NBR price increase of more than 40% during Q2. The country relies significantly on imported material, making it sensitive to changes in regional supply and transportation costs.
Tighter supply from South Korea affected the Indonesian market as limited naphtha availability reduced the availability of butadiene and acrylonitrile. Higher freight charges and marine insurance premiums also increased the landed cost of imported NBR.
By June, improved shipping conditions helped reduce some of the pressure. NBR prices in Indonesia corrected by around 10% as supply flows improved and transportation costs moderated.
NBR Price Trend in India
The NBR Price Trend in India was strongly influenced by developments in the wider Asian petrochemical market. During Q2 2026, domestic NBR prices in India increased by around 35%.
The closure of the Strait of Hormuz disrupted feedstock flows and created uncertainty across the region. Reduced naphtha availability tightened supply chains, while higher crude and petrochemical costs increased the overall cost of producing and moving NBR.
For Indian buyers, the impact was not limited to the price of the rubber itself. Higher logistics expenses and limited material availability also increased purchasing pressure. Manufacturers and distributors competed for available supplies, helping keep the market firm through much of the quarter.
In June, conditions improved. Better feedstock availability and easing supply pressures led to a correction of more than 10% in Indian NBR prices.
The movement of NBR Prices in India during Q2 highlights how strongly the domestic market can respond to changes in international feedstock and logistics conditions. Even when local demand remains relatively stable, a major disruption in upstream petrochemical supply can quickly affect domestic pricing.
NBR Price Trend in the USA
The US market recorded an NBR price increase of more than 45% during Q2. Imports from France became more expensive as European supply faced restrictions in butadiene availability and wider logistics challenges.
Higher crude oil and feedstock prices added to the cost of imported material. Freight and marine insurance costs also increased, making the landed cost of NBR higher for American buyers.
By June, improved supply from France and slightly lower feedstock costs helped stabilize the market. NBR prices in the USA corrected by around 1%.
NBR Price Trend in China
China experienced a more moderate quarterly increase of more than 15%. Even so, the market remained under pressure during the first part of Q2.
Reduced naphtha flows from the Middle East tightened feedstock availability across Asia. This pushed butadiene and acrylonitrile costs higher and increased NBR production expenses.
Production slowdowns and reduced operating capacity added to the supply tightness. However, June brought a significant change. As feedstock flows improved and production restrictions eased, NBR prices in China corrected by around 18%.
This sharp June correction shows that NBR prices can respond quickly when upstream supply conditions improve.
NBR Price Index and June Correction
The NBR Price Index moved higher during the first two months of Q2 2026 as the market dealt with tight feedstock availability, higher energy costs, and transportation disruptions. The strongest pressure was seen during the period when the Strait of Hormuz remained closed and uncertainty around regional trade was high.
June brought a different market environment. The easing of geopolitical tensions, reopening of the shipping route, and improvement in feedstock movement reduced some of the pressure that had pushed prices higher.
The correction did not happen at the same speed in every market. China saw a correction of around 18%, while South Korea declined by around 11%, India by more than 10%, Indonesia by around 10%, and Japan by around 7%. France and the USA recorded smaller corrections of around 1%.
This difference reflects the individual supply structures, import dependence, inventories, and logistics costs of each market.
NBR Price Forecast: What Could Happen Next?
Looking ahead, NBR prices are likely to remain sensitive to crude oil, naphtha, butadiene, and acrylonitrile costs. If energy and feedstock supply remain stable, the sharp price pressure seen during the early part of Q2 could continue to ease.
However, the market may remain vulnerable to new shipping disruptions or geopolitical developments. NBR buyers should therefore pay close attention to international freight rates, feedstock availability, production operations, and regional inventory levels.
For Indian buyers in particular, import costs will remain an important factor. Changes in Asian NBR availability can influence domestic prices quickly, especially when importers need to replace lower inventories.
Demand from the automotive and industrial sectors will also matter. If vehicle production, machinery manufacturing, and industrial activity remain healthy, NBR demand can provide support to prices even when feedstock costs decline.
The Q2 2026 NBR market clearly demonstrated how interconnected the rubber and petrochemical industries have become. The Middle East conflict, temporary closure of the Strait of Hormuz, higher crude oil and feedstock costs, and increased shipping expenses created strong upward pressure on NBR prices during April and May.
India recorded an increase of around 35%, while several international markets experienced even stronger gains. South Korea, Japan, France, Indonesia, the USA, and China all recorded significant price movements, showing the broad impact of the supply disruption.
The situation changed in June as geopolitical tensions eased and trade routes reopened. Better feedstock availability and lower logistics pressure resulted in corrections across most markets, including a decline of more than 10% in India.
Overall, the Q2 2026 NBR Price Trend in India remained bullish despite the June correction. Going forward, crude oil prices, feedstock availability, shipping conditions, production capacity, and industrial demand will remain the key factors to watch. Understanding these factors can help manufacturers, traders, and procurement teams make better purchasing decisions and respond more effectively to future changes in the NBR market.
