Welcome to my research website! I am Rashid Shams a PhD Candidate at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. My research work and interests are centred around engineering seismology, catastrophic risk, natural hazards, data management and applications of AI/ML.  

Originally from India, I moved to Los Angeles in Fall 2022 to pursue PhD at the University of Southern California in Geotechnical Engineering. Before joining USC, I completed my master's in Earthquake Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad in 2022. And I completed my bachelor's in Civil Engineering in 2020 from Delhi, India. 

My area of research interest includes hazard/risk modelling, engineering seismology, seismic hazards, seismic site characterization, ground motion modelling, applications of ML/AI and data science. 

I am an avid traveller who likes to visit new places, explore new cultures and try new cuisines.
