Founded in February 2024, RAREserved is a University of Washington student organization dedicated to amplifying the voices of those living with rare diseases. We work to close the gap between rare disease experiences and public awareness through narrative-based journal articles and advocacy. Our teams, including research, interview, writing, graphic design, and outreach, collaborate to tell stories that inform, humanize, and advocate.
RAREserved was founded by Angel Lee, whose family member went undiagnosed with Klippel-Trenaunay Syndrome (KTS) for 22 years — a vascular disorder affecting 1 in 100,000 people that even operating surgeons had never encountered. Angel later founded RAREserved to ensure that stories like her family's are told, heard, and advocated for.
We are seeking individuals to interview and collaborate with to create a narrative-style article that shares a personal story in a way that respects each experience while also raising awareness. We would love to learn more about your story: how your condition has shaped your life, those who support you, and the challenges you’ve overcome.
Our goal is to approach this with sensitivity and care, as we want your voice and perspective to remain at the heart of the narrative! Please let us know if you would be interested in working with us or if there is a preferred way to connect with you. We are committed to respecting your privacy and preferences every step of the way. We will be sure to send our interview questions beforehand, as well as ask for consent to post any kind of footage content that may be taken.
