Classes Offered
In this course students will gain a fundamental knowledge of theatre performance, technical theatre, and script analysis. Throughout the year, students will be asked to explore how their body, voice, and understanding of character and tone help to create a well-rounded performer. Students will also interact with several forms of theatre design and creation, ranging from scenic design to hand sewing. After completing this course, students should have a clearer grasp of their specific theatre interests and talents while also demonstrating a firm understanding of fundamental theatre concepts.
In this course, Students explore the foundation of theatre: The Script. Throughout this course, students will read, analyze, perform, and write scripts for both the stage and the screen. By the end of this course, each student will have written a unique script, read and analyzed a Pulitzer prize winning play, and grown as an ensemble.
In this course, students will explore both the theoretical nature of theatrical design and the practical skills used to create those designs for the stage. Students will encounter design prompts from each of the 6 major design elements: Scenic, Costume, Lighting, Sound, Props, and Projections. Students will use the tools and learn proper use and safety for countless construction tools and techniques, and will, at the end of the course, have the skills needed to design and build their ideas for a full production.
