Despite Ralph’s other hats, being a 29-year member of the Commack Fire Department is one that he holds in an extremely high regard. He made the decision to join the department after the Sunrise Fire on Long Island in 1995, which was the largest fire that the state of New York had seen in nearly 90 years and scorched 4,500 acres of pine barrens. When this devastation struck, Ralph knew he had to answer the call to duty. When others ran away, he ran toward. This underscores the way Ralph lives his life. During his nearly 30 years in Company 2, he has served as Secretary (2 years), Second Lieutenant (2 years), and Captain (4 years). Ralph has also been a Safety Officer (2 years). He currently serves as a member of the Fire Police, is on the Investigation Committee and has been Sergeant at Arms for the past 8 years.
