About the Hospital

Raj Retina and Eye Care Centre (RRECC) is a unique venture as it amalgamates world class comprehensive ophthalmic care, community outreach programmes and a centre of excellence for training of young ophthalmologists. It is a first-of-its-kind, state-of-the-art centre offering superspeciality ophthalmic care which was previously found to be wanting in the State of Bihar.

The Center boasts of latest high-tech equipment’s for diagnosis and surgery such as, ZEISS operating microscope, ZEISS Fluorescein Angiography and OCT, Advanced Alcon Phaco Machine – Laureate, Latest Vitrectomy Machine Constellation, to provide world class eye care in Bihar for which until now patients were seeking treatment from nearby states.

The Constellation Vitrectomy Machine has revolutionized vitreo retinal surgery and caters to most complex cases of diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment and ocular trauma. Besides these the Centre, offers computerized eye testing, visual field charting and Applanation and non-contact tonometry for Glaucoma patients. The centre also provides LASER for both anterior segment as well as medical retina.

RRECC runs continuous educational workshops for young ophthalmologists and post graduates under the RRECC CME program called SWORD (Skill Workshop for Retinal Diseases). RRECC also organises diabetic retinopathy eye camps in the city and outreach eye camps around 80 km radius of Patna. RRECC Is organising regular cataract surgery eye camp in Mahagama of Godda district in Jharkhand since 2014 every year in collaboration with ECL Hospital, Uma Nagar, Mahagama.

RRECC is also the centre for Alcon Surgical Training Programme for Phaco and Vitreo-Retinal Surgery. This programme entails training of young ophthalmic surgeons of the state in a modular fashion with a performance follow-up. For long, the development of superspecialty has been wanting in Bihar, and often patients have to travel to other states for their ailments. This programme not only provides opportunity for superspecialty fellowship to young practitioners but prevent exodus of patients from the states.

RRECC has its presence in the Asia Pacific region due to Prof Azad's regular invitation to national ophthalmic societies of the Asia Pacific region.
