Established in 2014, Raj Retina and Eye Care Centre (RRECC) is a unique venture as it amalgamates world class comprehensive ophthalmic care and community outreach programmes with a centre of excellence for training of young ophthalmologists. It is a first-of-its-kind, state-of-the-art centre offering superspeciality ophthalmic care which was previously found to be wanting in the State of Bihar. It is the first and the only centre for advanced surgery for retinopathy of prematurity in east India.
The Centre boasts of superspecialist doctors and latest high-tech equipments for diagnosis and surgery, such as the Zeiss operating microscope, Zeiss fundus camera, Cirrus OCT, an advanced Alcon Phaco machine – Legion, and the latest vitrectomy machine – Constellation, to provide world-class eye care in Bihar for which until now patients were seeking treatment from nearby states. In particular, the Constellation Vitrectomy Machine has revolutionized vitreo retinal surgery and caters to most complex cases of diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment and ocular trauma. Besides these, the centre offers computerized eye testing, optical coherence tomography, visual field charting and applanation and non-contact tonometry for Glaucoma patients. The centre also provides LASER for both anterior segment as well as medical retina. Clinician, academician, educator and researcher Prof Dr Rajvardhan Azad embodies these qualities with a self-assurance that comes through expertise and experience in the field of eye care for over 35 years. He is a Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh (FRCS), Academy of Medical Sciences (FAMS), Royal Society of Medicine (FRSM) and International College of Surgeons (FICS).
