Frist steps is proper understanding of the question : Make sure you understand the question before you start writing. Read the question carefully, underline the key information, and identify what type of chart/graph/map you are given.
Second step is planning of your answer: Spend a few minutes planning your answer before you start writing. Identify the key features of the chart/graph/map and decide which ones you want to include in your answer. Also, decide on the structure of your answer (introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion).
Third step is use the right tense: your need to decide tense from the chart whether you should use past, present or future tense. most commonly used tenses are simpleĀ past and present along with use appropriate language: Use appropriate vocabulary to describe the data. Use synonyms to avoid repeating the same words over and over again.
Fourth step is to include comparisons: you need to find out trends like highest, higher etc and compare data with appropriate numbers or percentages.
Don't include your opinion: Task 1 requires you to describe and compare data, not to express your opinion. Don't include personal views or experiences in your answer.
Keep your writing organized: Use clear paragraphs with a topic sentence and supporting sentences. Use linking words to connect your ideas and make your writing flow.
Keep an eye on the time: Task 1 should take you around 20 minutes, so make sure you manage your time well. Spend 5 minutes planning your answer and around 15 minutes writing it.
Practice: The more you practice, the more comfortable you will feel with the format and the language used in Task 1. Try to practice describing different types of charts and graphs, and get feedback from a teacher or a tutor.
