The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Writing Task consists of two tasks: Task 1 and Task 2.
Task 1 requires test takers to write a report based on visual information, such as a graph, chart, or table. Test takers are asked to summarize, describe, and illustrate the information presented in the visual in academic module and letter in general module. They are expected to write 150 words in 20 minutes.
Task 2 requires test takers to write an essay in response to a given prompt. They are expected to present a clear argument and support it with relevant examples and evidence. They are expected to write 250 words in 40 minutes.
Both tasks are scored based on four criteria: task achievement, coherence and cohesion, lexical resource, and grammatical range and accuracy.
