The Railway Ground Hazard Research Program (RGHRP) is a collaborative effort among industry leaders, academic institutions and the federal government. Our research is aimed at developing and evaluating technical solutions that manage the risks associated with ground hazards, including landslides, rockfalls, subsidence, stream erosion, and extreme weather events.
The unique collaboration among RGHRP partners—Canadian National Railway Company (CN), CPKC, the University of Alberta, University of Saskatchewan and the École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS), Transport Canada (TC), and Natural Resources Canada / the Geological Survey of Canada—shows the commitment of everyone involved towards an innovative and competitive railway sector that prioritizes the safety of Canadians and their quality of life.
Dr. Renato Macciotta (University of Alberta) serves as Principal Investigator for RGHRP. He provides technical oversight and directs and coordinates the work being done by our researchers.
