Day 1: Arrival in Zurich (September 22, 2024)
My journey began with a flight that landed in Zurich, a city known for its pristine lakes and bustling financial district. The excitement of my first international trip was overwhelming as I stepped out into the crisp Swiss air. I spent the rest of the day marveling at Zurich’s efficiency and charm, and I prepared for my onward travel to Basel.
Day 2: Arrival in Basel and Conference Preparations
After a scenic train ride to Basel, I settled into the city where the Rhine River flows serenely. My main purpose for the trip was to attend the International Conference organized by MDPI, which commenced the next day. Basel’s vibrant yet calm atmosphere provided the perfect setting to unwind and focus on the event ahead.
Days 3-5: MDPI International Conference
The conference was a remarkable experience. It brought together professionals and academics from across the globe. Attending keynote sessions and engaging in thought-provoking discussions allowed me to expand my knowledge and network. The venue itself was an architectural marvel, blending modern design with Swiss precision.
Day 6: Exploring Basel’s Cultural Riches
With the conference concluded, I dedicated a day to explore Basel’s rich cultural tapestry. The Kunstmuseum and Fondation Beyeler offered a feast for the eyes, with stunning art collections. Strolling through the Old Town, I admired the medieval architecture, the Tinguely Fountain, and the vibrant Marketplatz.
Day 7: Border-Hopping Adventures
One of the perks of holding a Schengen visa is the freedom to cross borders effortlessly. I ventured into Germany, exploring the charming town of Freiburg, known for its cobblestone streets and picturesque cathedral. Later, I stepped into France, visiting the quaint town of Colmar, often described as a ‘fairy-tale village’ with its half-timbered houses and canals.
Day 8: Rhine River Cruise and Relaxation
I indulged in a leisurely cruise on the Rhine River, soaking in the views of vineyards, castles, and small villages along the banks. The peaceful rhythm of the water and the picturesque surroundings made for an unforgettable experience.
Day 9: Zurich Revisited (September 30, 2024)
Before my return flight, I spent my final day revisiting Zurich. I explored Bahnhofstrasse, one of the world’s most exclusive shopping avenues, and enjoyed a traditional Swiss meal. Reflecting on the journey, I felt immense gratitude for the experiences and memories.
