ENRICH STUDENTS' ENGAGEMENT THROUGH A VARIETY OF TEACHING ACTIVITIES WITH TECHNOLOGY
Learning Mathematics requires students to actively engage during lectures and develop skills through lots of practice and solving application problems. It is essential to provide fun and interactive learning experiences through different styles of teaching methods by incorporating the utilization of technology in enhancing student learning. I encourage peer learning among students during lectures because I believe that peer learning is the best method to improve students’ academic performance. This is because peers can provide a great influence on each other activities. I motivate them to solve the problem independently at the end of the lecture by shifting more responsibility to students for their learning instead of one-way teaching. Consequently, teaching and learning involve activities that grow the student’s potential such as volunteering to solve problems in the front and explain to their colleagues.
In between lectures, I guide the students to reflect on their attitudes and responsibilities towards the subject through various activities. The intention is to shine the student’s inner strength and to improve themselves.
Teaching is a process of transferring knowledge to a person and at the same time developing a person to reach their highest potential. Therefore my objective in teaching is to create a teaching environment that enhances students’ potential and to develop a person who appreciates knowledge. Every student is unique and has something special to show and contribute to the society. I ensure that the teaching and learning activities in class create meaningful experiences to the students.
Engagement in classroom requires high participation from students. It can be achieved by implementing Active Learning, Collaborative Learning and Cooperative Learning. Activities in the classroom are designed so that students are actively involved in the learning process.
A wide variety of materials and methods of teaching are explored to make the classroom experience much more interesting.
An academician said “Learning happens when you trap a student in an environment where they can’t escape without thinking”.
“It’s all about engagement”.
Creating an engaging mathematics classroom by implementing various teaching methods and activities, incorporating technology in mathematics teaching and adopting technology. It enables lecturers to craft powerful collaborative and active learning environments and allows lecturers to customize learning experiences. Students are “youth and playful”, they want to be engaged, so let’s give it to them!
