Randomization in an experiment refers to a random assignment of participants to the treatment in an experiment. The main purpose of randomization is to eliminate selection bias and balance known and unknown confounding factors in order to create a control group that is as similar as possible to the treatment group. It prevents the selection bias and insures against the accidental bias. Randomization as a method of experimental control has been extensively used in agricultural experiments.
