Hard Top Controls

Hard Top Controls

The hard top was originally controlled by a computer (located behind the rear passenger seat) produced in 1995. It is not available anymore, and used ones are very rare and prone to issues given their age (25 years old). The original Spyder came with a series of micro switches that must be triggered to control the open and close of the Tonneau (cover over the trunk) and the hard top. If any of the switches come out of calibration, the top will not work. If the computer for the hard top fails, the truck will not operate. Finding repair facilities for the car is nearly impossible. If you'd like a glimpse into the mechanics, check out the supplemental manual for the hardtop below.

Modified Hard Top Controls

The hard top computer and micro switches have been disabled on this hard top convertible. You now open and close the Tonneau and hard top using five simple switches. The components are as follows:

  1. Tonneau Latch Open or Close

  2. Tonneau Open or Close

  3. Hard Top Latch Open or Close

  4. Hard Top Open or Close

  5. Hard Top Quarter Windows Open or Close

Opening the Tonneau, Putting the Top DOWN

Opening the Tonneau, Putting the Top UP

DIRECTIONS: To simplify the process, I've created a easy sequence that used the characters A-B (for Tonneau operations) and numbers 1-6 (for hard top operation).

About hard top operations - It is important that you follow the sequence for opening and closing the hard top. Damage to the quarter windows may result if you forget to open or close them during the process and you should always latch the hard top and tonneau before driving the vehicle.
