Tanya discusses the history of the Queensland Native Labourers Protection Act of 1884 and its successors. Though claimed to 'protect' people from slavery, in fact the Act subjected people to slavery.
Aboriginal people are still fighting for back wages, supported by their unions. Queensland minister for Aboriginal Affairs Bob Katter says award wages will only be phased in if the legal case for unpaid wages is dropped.
