These special radio productions by Tanya document some extraordinary, historic struggles.
A special show first broadcast on 26 January 1987, a year before the official Bicentenary celebrations of the British invasion of the Australian continent commenced. The Australian Bicentennial Authority had stated that 'the people who came merged with those already here'. Tanya put together this show as a response, including interviews and speeches from many prominent Indigenous activists.
Fighting back, inside and outside Australia’s refugee detention centres. Produced at Radio 2XX, Canberra, 2003.
A special show for May Day 1994, a tribute to the well-known communist author Frank Hardy who died in January 1994.
Tanya gives a very short history of the Queensland Native Labourers Protection Act (1884), and its successors. Though claimed to 'protect' people from slavery, in fact the Act subjected people to slavery. Aboriginal people are still fighting for back wages.
Elba Cruz tells the story of an epic three-week strike by mainly migrant women workers at the Canberra Hospital laundry in 1987.
A special anti-war radio special featuring the poetry of Wilfred Owen, the stage production Oh What a Lovely War, music from Billy Bragg and others.
A six-part radio series on prisons, first broadcast on 2XX in the early 1990s. Featuring the voices of Johnny Johnson, Kevin Gilbert, Brett Collins and many others.
(Note: this recording includes the voices of people who have died.)
A four-part radio series telling the history of colonisation, oppression and resistance in Ireland.
