About Krista
I live, act and see the world through the lens of Love. Simply by choosing this, I encourage others to do the same. The love that I embody has the power to heal the world. May all who I encounter experience the infinite, unconditional Love that I am. May they recognize in me, a reflection of themselves and awaken to their true nature.
We are One. My passion, gift, and practice is reflecting Divine wholeness, goodness, and brilliance to all who cross my path.
About Emily
I've been a professional educator for 25+ years. I am passionate about creating a sense of belonging and social-emotional wellbeing in schools for both children and adults. In my latest educational roles, I've focused on supporting educators as they learn more about themselves and their own emotional intelligence. This allows them to have a different, more authentic relationship with the learners they serve. I've served in public education as a primary classroom teacher, site and district administrator, independent study program designer and leader, and as a charter school administrator. I'm trained as a Certified Resilience Coach with Dovetail Learning, and serve as their Director of Educational Partnerships. I'm also a professional photographer and laser maker, and enjoy yoga, travel, and culinary adventures.
I'm so excited to be in partnership with Krista around these retreats, because what is better than self-love? Self-love at the beach! Sand between your toes, the sound of the waves, and the complete reset that we feel when we're near the ocean.
Krista's Journey of Understanding Radical Self Love
My understanding of the power and importance of radical self-love has evolved over a lifetime of practicing and studying love. Through many years of engaging with educational, philosophical, and spiritual leaders—both contemporary and historical—as well as working in education for over 30 years, parenting, leading international solidarity trips, and exploring somatic and embodiment practices, I have refined my understanding and practice of love. Becoming a grandparent has deepened and shifted this journey. Watching and learning from my grandchild has led me to a new realization: Self-love is the most powerful force for transforming social justice work, education, society, and the world. It is also the path I am most committed to practicing, teaching, and embodying for the rest of my life.
When we learn to witness, accept, and love all parts of ourselves, we can do the same for our students, colleagues, and others. Those who fully love themselves radiate joy by spreading love, compassion, and goodness wherever they go. By embracing self-love, we become clear mirrors, reflecting the wholeness and brilliance in those we encounter. When educators practice radical self-love, they invite others to do the same, helping to shift the world one person at a time.
Wherever I go when traveling the world, working in schools, or spending time with those who are incarcerated—I find people longing to be loved.
Both of my parents worked in the juvenile justice system and emphasized that kids often got into trouble because they weren't able to see their own value. We are born loving ourselves and knowing our worth, but over time, due to various influences, we forget how to love ourselves. Many learn to dislike, judge, or even hate themselves. My mother often reminded us, 'Hurt people hurt people.'
It makes sense that people who know self-love naturally spread love. We punish children who are acting out, or people who are hurtful by putting them in jail without seeing the root of the issue. Those who hurt others need the most love, so they can heal, learn to love themselves, and eventually spread that love to others.
When we practice radical self-love, we become less judgmental, less defensive, and more open to feedback. We set healthy boundaries that don't harm others, feel more energized, and we are able to enjoy our own company. We become less needy, more playful, and more joyous. Life is better, easier, and we’re more fun to be around when we embrace radical self-love.
My passion is creating spaces where we can practice Radical Self Love together in community, reminding each other what it means to love ourselves fully. Over the last few years, I’ve studied and practiced somatics, with the goal of embodying love, to be love. As a wise teacher once said, 'The being informs the doing.' So, let’s be love!
