Redfern Creative Connections-

Virtual Space

Living in a COVID-19 world means living in a time of great uncertainty, instability, and social upheaval. How are artists coping with these challenges, how are they adapting, innovating and continuing to create work? How are they shifting their creative practices? What can we all learn from this moment, about slowing down, observing details, adopting new routines, and embracing our limitations? Can COVID-19 be a portal?

At the Redfern we are privileged to be in a continuous conversation with creative practitioners- past/current future performing artists, creative producers, technicians, collaborators, educators, students, and audience members- and we want to reach out in these coming weeks and months to invite their contributions (and yours!) to a series of prompts that touch on the daily, specific and the existential of this moment. We want to create a community conversation and archive that can support and strengthen the Redfern’s community. Let's cultivate a virtual space for play, discovery, and social connection.

Each Friday, the Redfern is inviting some of our past and future artists and collaborators to offer a creative prompt or a bit of their own creative practice. We welcome your interpretations to these prompts in whatever form speaks to you- an image, short video, audio, text, a recipe, or anything that speaks to you. To submit a creative response: fill out the submission link HERE; tag the Redfern on Instagram or Facebook @RedfernArtsCenter and include the hashtags #RACVirtualConnections, #VirtualCreativeConnections, or #LetsConnectRAC; or send your creative responses to sfantl@keene.edu.

Please scroll down the page to view the creative prompts being offered by and for the Redfern community. You can participate at any time, with any prompt in this series. Share your creative responses with us so we can keep our connections strong during these extraordinary times!

“You do not need to leave your room. Remain sitting at your table and listen. Do not even listen, simply wait, be quiet, still and solitary. The world will freely offer itself to you to be unmasked, it has no choice, it will roll in ecstasy at your feet.”- Franz Kafka

What are you running from? What are you running to? Where is the pause?

Makayla Ferrick is a KSC 17' alumnus in dance and management. She shares this week's prompt with us while out for a walk.

FRIDAY 4/24 PROMPT

Find your own stage in nature and perform. Perform for the birds. Perform for the trees. Perform for houses.

friday 4/17 Prompt

Redfern's Creative Connections Virtual Space Project is in its second week with a triptych of creative prompts from dance artist Ali Kenner Brodsky:

"How can you curate your movement for your audience (or yourself) to convey an emotion by using specific body parts. Or similarly, how can you use the camera to curate the experience?"

Ali Kenner Brodsky is a choreographer, mover, educator and curator. She is the artistic director of ali kenner brodsky & co., co-founder of Motion State Arts and on the adjunct faculty at Roger Williams University.

Send us a photo- tag the Redfern on Instagram or Facebook @RedfernArtsCenter and include the hashtags #RACVirtualConnections, #VirtualCreativeConnections, or #LetsConnectRAC. You can also send your creative responses to sfantl@keene.edu.

"Historically, pandemics have forced humans to break with the past and imagine their world anew. This one is no different. It is a portal, a gateway between one world and the next." - Arundati Roy
