Before we flew home, we visited The King Center in Atlanta. We started at the original Ebenezer Baptist Church, where Martin Luther King, Jr grew up and later preached alongside his father. The church is now a national park site. As we entered the sanctuary and sat in the original pews, Dr. King's voice echoed through the room as they replayed one of his sermons. A park ranger told us about the history of the church and Dr. King and led us on a tour of the building.
Then we walked around the corner to Freedom Hall, where we toured exhibit space honoring Coretta Scott King, Rosa Parks, and Mahatma Gandhi. Walls inscribed with King's principles of nonviolence reminded us again of how the Civil Rights Movement was rooted in Christian faith and ethics.
