Sandra Bland
In 2017, Texas passed the Sandra Bland Act which attempts to educate police officers about mental illness and de-escalation tactics. It also mandates that those with mental illnesses and substance abuse issues enter into treatment.
The story of Sandra Bland is an alarming one. Sandra was 28 years old at the time of her death. A routine traffic stop with Texas State Trooper Brian Encinia quickly turned brutal.
