Huntingdon County Humane Society

Thursday, October 27

Today, I got back into the swing of volunteering at the Huntingdon County Humane Society. I have enjoyed regularly volunteering here for two years now, but during volleyball season it is hard to fit the volunteer hours into my schedule. Now that volleyball is calming down, I look forward to being around more to care for the shelter animals and keep them in the best possible position to find a forever home. Today, I cleaned all the windows in the shelter, and this kitten was adamant about helping me; making sure I didn't miss any spots! After cleaning the windows, I took sweet steadson puppy on a run and then a walk through the woods where we played with some fall leaves. It took him some getting used to the sound of the leaves crunching under our feet, but I think once he warmed up to them, he liked watching the leaves fall.

Today at the Humane Society, I began by helping the shelter manager, Lisa, move some heavy bags of puppy food and put them in the storage unit. Then, I did a load of laundry and folded some blankets for the animals. Then, I got to see the senior cats, walk a sweet dog named Molly, and play with my favorite dog, Tucker. Today Tucker learned that he loves belly rubs as he was afraid of them at first. He also learned how to take a selfie!

Thursday, December 8

Today I went to the Humane Society for the first time after Thanksgiving break. I folded a load of laundry when I came in which is typical. Then, I worked the front desk by answering a few phone calls and helping potential adopters when they came in. Then, I performed a blood draw on a dog named Prince who needed to be Heartworm and Lyme tested. And finally, I sat with Gigi, a great pyranese abuse victim. She allowed me to pet her head and by the end of my time sitting with her had come near the door of the kennel, which is a big step for her.
