Linguistics is a small, but growing, field that combines perspectives from both humanities and sciences. I recognize that this combination can be exciting but challenging for students, which is why I employ a learner-centered approach in my teaching and mentorship. I emphasize individuated learning arcs to capitalize on the unique skill sets that each learner has to offer, putting students in the driver’s seat of their own learning.
In recognition of these efforts, I was awarded a Teaching Assistant award by the Department of Linguistics at UBC in 2023.

My role as an educator is constantly evolving. As such, I have cultivated connections for learning inside, and outside the classroom, by working as the TA Training Coordinator for the Department of Linguistics at UBC. In this role, I demonstrate educational leadership by developing peer-review frameworks, enabling the department to recognize excellence in teaching both at the undergraduate and graduate level. Furthermore, I consistently seek out teaching enhancement seminars and workshops to continue building on my interest and involvement in teaching and student learning. These workshops have broadly shaped my learner-centered approach to teaching and encouraged me to step outside of my comfort zone and incorporate new skills learned through these workshops into my teaching practices. Some of these workshops are provided below (please see my CV for a full list).
