Fighting everyday with your older brother is never an ideal situation for any young girl trying to navigate her way through life. After many years have passed, my sister, brother, and I have grown to love and care for each other more than we ever could have imagined. My sister and I have grown especially close. We enjoy watching movies and shows, doing puzzles, and talking for hours. My sister is my best friend and has taught me everything in life. I am grateful for the bond my family and I share and the support I receive from them each day.
Now as a high schooler, I have used that support to carry me through many difficult tasks. I am a very visual learner who does best with examples and displays. In my high school experiences, I have realized that I enjoy spending my time as a leader. I take that leadership and apply it to many clubs and organizations throughout the school. I am president of SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) where I organize events that teach students how to spend their time in safe and smart ways. I will be applying my leadership skills at Washburn University. I chose this college because my sister is currently attending, and it is where I feel most comfortable. I love the environment and the campus feels safe and homey. In high school, I ensured my acceptance into Washburn by working hard, getting involved, and finding a path that best fit me.
When I grow up, I want to be an elementary teacher. This was always a dream of mine when I was younger. I would sit in my room for hours grading papers, reading books, and solving math problems on my window with an expo marker, teaching a class full of invisible students. Now that the big decision has come to finally become a teacher, I needed a plan for this dream to become a reality. I'm excited to begin my journey toward becoming an elementary teacher, and it is with great aspiration that I can continue my education at Washburn University. I will go there for four years where I will complete a K-6 license and taken the appropriate specialty course provided by Department of Education and receive a Bachelor of Education. After college, I plan to find a school that fits to my needs and proper environment and educate young children.
It has always been a dream of mine to visit Bali. I would visit Bali simply because of how peaceful and serene it looks. I like to imagine the calming sound of waves crashing on the shore, the taste of a virgin pina colada, or the feeling of the hot sun burning my skin. If I became a millionaire today, I would put aside all the money I would need to pay off college. My biggest fear and worry about going to college are the expenses. I don’t know if I will be able to handle having all my money taken away from me when I am so used to spending it carelessly. My favorite way to spend a free moment is baking. Baking is what heals my soul. Baking is my addiction. I love to bake with loud music as I dance with my cat around the kitchen in pure bliss. The smell of cookies, cupcakes, or pies is enough to make my day 10 times better alone. Lastly, my favorite movie is Ratatouille. Some may say this is childish, but I say it is a cinematic masterpiece. Ratatouille is the perfect example of an underdog who proves themselves to be something worthy of praise. Taking my childhood dreams and turning them around is a lifelong goal of mine, and I take much inspiration from Ratatouille.
