I. Knowing the Content

I.A. Identification, selection, installation and maintenance of technology infrastructure, and hardware and software applications for school administration and instruction including:

I.A.1: Assessment of educational and administrative technological needs

Artifact: Technology Plan (GILT 514) GILT 513( Blackboard Tutorial) Grant GILT 515 Analysis Staff and Student

Rating:I would rate myself as exceeding the standard. I feel that the plan we put together in GILT 514 and the work that went into it helped me to progress and I have a good understanding of how to determine the technological needs for a school district. After conducting a lot of research and looking at other plans, I have a good working knowledge of how to assess needs.

Reflection: At the start of GILT 514, I had a general idea of what resources are needed and used by a school district because of my experience in my own school. I knew from my own experience the type of needs classrooms have, but did not realize the amount of detail and the considerations that are part of a technology plan and implementation of a plan in a district. The plan gives a clear outline of needs and goals for integration. After working on the plan, I feel that I exceed the standard because of the amount of effort I put into learning about the parts of the plan, conducting research, following the Guidebook and continually revising and editing the plan. This was a huge task in only a 6 week course and I feel a great sense of accomplishment that we were able to prepare the plan that we did. Over 110 pages long and with a lot of great information. Writing a grant also required that I assess the needs of the school and determine the value for educational purposes and make a grant proposal with a well designed plan.

As for GILT 513, working through the Blackboard tutorial provided me with an opportunity to learn how to develop and design a course through Blackboard.

On a personal note, I also applied for and received a grant through Remake Learning for taking some of my students to Harrisburg to participate in the PAECT Technology Showcase in May of 2015.

In GILT 515, by completing the Staff and Student Analysis, I was better able to assess the needs for educational and administrative purposes and design a plan for implementing a staff and student project within my district.

I.A.2: Design and production of media including projected and non-projected visual aids, audio and video production in both analog and digital forms, and photography using film-based and digital formats

Artifacts: Adobe Photoshop Poster (GILT 511) (GILT 512 and 513) GILT 520 GILT 631 eBook, Digital Story, Synchronous Lesson

Rating: I would rate myself exceeding overall. Early in the Masters program during GILT 511, I had a difficult time initially figuring out how to locate and use the various tools in the Photoshop program but after spending time looking at and working with each one, I became confident in my ability to use the tool to create my project and also in my ability to help students create their own. This activity helped me grow and develop as a teacher and a professional by adding to the tools I can use to create an authentic Spanish learning environment for my classroom. The sign I made shows some of the typical symbols of Spanish language and culture and the curiosity that it creates helps to foster student learning and interest.

Reflection: For one of our GILT 511 projects, I created an Adobe Photoshop Poster for use in my language classroom. The poster was to be a motivational poster that could be displayed in our classroom. I chose to create a welcome sign which included a few common symbols of the Spanish culture and language. I had not used the Photoshop program before and had only seen it used a few times during some of the observations that I did for the field experience. I spent a great deal of time familiarizing myself with the various tools and the setup of the program and feel that I became proficient in using a variety of its features. I enjoyed creating something for use in my class and felt a definite accomplishment at learning the program on my own. I feel that I could instruct students how to use the program and that it would be great for adding to my lessons and also having students complete projects which require some creativity on their part. I plan to share this information at future professional development days with other staff members and would encourage them to create some of their own motivational materials.

Reflection: For the GILT 512 PowerPoint, I worked a long time to create a highly interactive presentation that could help students learn and gain practice with two difficult verbs in Spanish. I was able to figure out how to create questions and link various pages together to make it more interactive. I include a variety of resources for students to use including videos, quizzes and links to other resources available for them for more practice. I feel confident I could create the interactive powerpoint for use in all of my classes and that it would be beneficial for my students.

Artifact: Digital Storytelling (GILT 513) and GILT 631 Digital Story

Rating: I would rate myself as exceeding the standards. I had some difficulty completing the assignment initially in GILT 513 because of incompatibility with the software and other technological issues. These issues further developed my problem solving skills. I learned a lot about how to create a Digital Story and find it to be a very useful tool for introducing a lesson and also for having students complete their own projects. In GILT 631, I also created a Voice Thread and an ebook using Book Creator to develop a lesson for students. Both of these incorporated a variety of multimedia tools, including audio and video, photos, worksheets and external links to additional web tools. I also created a Digital story discussing my experience with technology and how I use it to engage my students. (youtube)

I.A.3: Implementation and maintenance of interactive information systems, the Internet, distance learning technologies and networks.

Artifact: GILT 524 and GILT 631: During the Hardware course, through the Virtual Desktop applications and working to build and program a computer, I learned more about how technology works from creation of the system through to entrance on a network. Through my work in the other courses, including the research for the GILT Staff Analysis and learning about our district technology systems, I developed a greater understanding and ability to work with computer software and hardware.

Reflection: for the GILT 514 wiki I would rate myself exceeding the standard. The tool is easy to use and create and really gives a good amount of information and resources for learning about and protecting against security threats. I learned more about the steps to protect students and networks against security threats, which is critical for keeping informed of internet safety and promoting a safe learning environment for students. For the GILT 524 computer comparison chart, I would rate myself Basic. I was not sure how to locate all of the relevant information but feel that I am much better at evaluating the components after completing this assignment.

Reflection: GILT 511 - I chose to evaluate three learning platforms, Edmodo, Collaborize and Schoology for the software evaluation assignment. I rated myself advanced for this standard because of the level at which I explored and analyzed the three sites. As a professional, completing the evaluations helped me to be sure I am providing the most effective and beneficial tools to my students and also other staff members. Using the most user friendly learning platform with as many tools and apps as possible will increase student learning and enable my students to be more successful in learning a foreign language. This assignment enabled me to compare and contrast each site, using the rubric, and to also set up sites to work with and gain a better understanding of how each worked. Using a social learning platform such as one of these is a great way to incorporate technology into the classroom on a daily basis and to provide students with many additional learning opportunities. There are endless possibilities for providing opportunities and increasing engagement of the students using technology through sites such as these.

I.A.6: Application of basic troubleshooting strategies.

Artifact: GILT 514 , Tech Plan, 524 Virtual Desktop, GILT 515 Implementation

Rating: Exceeds standard

Reflection: We had some problems with my ability to access and edit our tech plan through One Drive. We had to work around it by staying in contact when we each were working on the document and send updated files to then be loaded onto One Drive. We were able to work through it, and complete the project. By having these difficulties, it enabled me as an IT candidate, to learn about problem solving and find alternate methods for completing a task and trouble shooting.

In 524, the work using the Virtual Desktop and working through modules provided a lot of experience in learning the steps involved in troubleshooting technology issues for students, staff and any client. The opportunity to work through each lesson on one's own and reflect was very beneficial. During the Implementation for Staff and Students, I had to find ways quickly to deal with technology accessibility issues and troubleshoot so as to not interrupt the learning process.

I also teach my students some basic strategies and they are learning how to problem solve as well.

For GILT 514, I would rate myself exceeding the standard. I have improved since I finished the GILT 511 course and used a lot of what I learned in GILT 511 and through additional reading and research I have done for GILT 514.

For GILT 513, I would rate myself exceeding the standard as well. I have learned additional tools and ways to enhance student learning and motivating students to take advantage in what technology has to offer.

Reflection: I conducted research to analyze three websites for social learning platforms, including the one that I have been using in my classrooms for the past two school years. I shared my research with my students and offered the opportunity for a few of my students to test out the other sites. I created a Hyperbook for learning about planning a trip to Mexico and incorporating the prior vocabulary students had learned related to weather, clothing, colors, travel terms and also cultural themes. The hyperbook would encourage students to seek information from a variety of online sources and compile their information into the hyperbook and have the opportunity to learn more from the additional enrichment resources provided. The Concept Map would interest students in the use of technology and show the uses of a tool such as this for enhancing learning of a topic. Knowing how to create tools and evaluate software increases student learning.

For GILT 514, creating the technology plan really helped me better understand the amount of work that goes into writing one and also helped me to evaluate the ways I use technology in my classroom and the choices of resources I use. I learned more about creating a good environment after having read The Learning Edge by Bain and Weston. Writing the Book Themes gave me a chance to really think through my classroom and the types of classrooms discussed in the book. The opportunity to design my own allowed me to incorporate my practices with some of the ideas from the book and create what I think is a good model for a classroom. I feel confident I can successfully integrate technology into my classroom.

For GILT 513, working within groups to create a Wiki and also to create blogs, gave me additional ideas for how to enhance the learning opportunities for my students and increase their interest in using technology. Students in my classes enjoy trying new tools and I am very excited to share new ideas and tools with them, and so it definitely increases their curiosity and motivates them to try new things.

II.A.2: Establishing and maintaining rapport with all staff and students

Artifact: Tech Plan, Facade interviews, GILT 514, Field Experiences ( GILT 512 and 513), Providing professional development sessions for district, holding Parent Night to Showcase student technology talents following the PAECT Showcase in May 2015, GILT 515 Staff Implementation and Student Implementation

Rating: I would rate myself meeting the standard. (GILT 514)

Reflection: I believe that my positive approach and desire to work to promote technology and provide assistance reflect my standard in this area. I interacted with students and staff to discuss technology needs and offered help with integrating technology and learning additional uses. I also presented professional development sessions and throughout the end of the school year provided helpful resources to staff and students after finding them through my own research. I get a lot of great feedback from staff for the resources and sessions I have provided and students are learning to use some tools in multiple classes, which is a great benefit because it keeps a good learning environment in place.

GILT 512 and 513: I would rate myself as exceeding the standard.

Reflection: I believe that through my field experiences for both of these courses, I have enhanced my knowledge and skills for working with the staff and the students. I had the opportunity to participate in several webinars, conferences and also present at conferences. These opportunities added to the knowledge I have of the resources available to students and staff and that can enhance the learning opportunities for all and also help me to provide better assistance during professional development sessions. Through GILT 515, I was able to focus more on meeting the needs of staff and students and conveying my interest in helping them and working together to build our skills with technology. I value the relationship building and community of learning that we develop.

II.A.3: Communicating high learning expectations

Artifact: Rubrics for the projects, Personal Rubrics, GILT 511 Photoshop Poster, Hyperbook, self-reflection (GILT 514) GILT 520 Picasso ITU, GILT 515 Student and Staff Design and Development

Rating: I rate myself proficient in developing lessons and projects that require a rubric and feel confident in creating them for my students because of my reliance on the rubrics for this course for knowing the expectations.

Reflection:The use of rubrics conveys the expected learning outcomes to the students and allows for the student to work through each part of a project and know and understand the expected outcomes. The use of the Hyperbook allows students to know what they are expected to accomplish and allows them to work at their own pace toward completion.

For the GILT 511 projects, I continually referred to the rubrics to be sure I was including all required information. I use rubrics in my classes for all projects and carefully explain the rubric, provide it for the students by posting it on our Edmodo page, and then use the rubric for grading and return it to the student. I rate myself proficient in developing lessons and projects that require a rubric and feel confident in creating them for my students. Rubrics foster learning and communicate high learning expectations because students can see what they need to do in order to receive the total points possible. Teachers benefit by using rubrics because it makes grading projects easier and enables fair and consistent grading.

Working through the GILT 514, I had the opportunity to write learning expectations and also evaluate myself. Being aware of the needs for student learning and my goals as a teacher, I will be able to communicate higher expectations for my students and communicate using rubrics, exactly what students need to complete.

Additional Artifacts: ADDIE Lesson Project and Interactive PowerPoint (GILT 512), GILT 515 Student and Staff Design and Development, GILT 631 ebook and Synchronous Lesson

Rating: I rate myself meeting the standard and definitely more advanced than I was at the end of the previous course of GILT 514.

Reflection: For the Final Project and the Interactive PowerPoint I did in GILT 512, I feel I am better able to express what I expect my learners to take away from the lesson and also to plan accordingly for the diverse learners and their diverse needs. The ADDIE lesson and the Powerpoint were both beneficial for focusing on specific groups of learners and what their needs are and how to plan a lesson that would benefit the diverse skills and needs.

In GILT 515, I created the staff and student projects for the practicum and spent a great deal of time designing appropriate lessons, based on the learner needs, determined through the pre-assessment and analysis phase. I developed a variety of materials to use, both in paper format and digital tools, to build on the technology skills of both groups, in line with the ISTE Standards.

I continue to stay informed by being active in several learning communities including PAECT, ISTE and Twitter connections.

Reflection: When writing the AUP and the Tech Plan, it was at first difficult to consider all the ways to make the learning environment safe. With technology in the picture, safety has additional meanings. Writing these two documents, you have to consider physical safety as well as safety from the internet. I feel confident that I can make decisions on how to create a safe environment for learning. I could add to the provisions and I am sure I will learn additional ways to accomplish this and rate myself higher. I have a technology agreement that my students and their parents sign every year to use technology in my class and I will make sure I review the policty with my students and keep informed of any changes to policy, locally or otherwise.

Rating I am proficient at meeting the needs of all learners.

Reflection I regularly adapt lessons as needed for students with IEPs or other learning plans and created my hyperbook in a way that would allow for differentiation depending on the learner. The hyperbook would be beneficial for all learners because it provided activities that students with basic technological knowledge would be able to complete the lessons and I also provided enrichment opportunities for students that were more advanced. I regularly provide web tools and apps to the Special Education teachers to help with some of the courses our students are enrolled in. I also conduct surveys to find out how familiar students are with certain technology tools and terminology before beginning projects and activities such as this. I adjust my lessons and instruction as needed to accommodate any issues with technology.

Through GILT 514, I learned additional ways to adapt learning and provide the necessary tools and adjustments in my teaching plan to be sure to include all learners, regardless of skill level. Completing the special needs learners section of the Plan gave me new insight into the variety of assisstive technologies available to special needs students and also the other sections gave me new knowledge about adaptive technologies available.

In GILT 512, creating an Interactive PowerPoint provided me with more experience in creating a lesson that would provide opportunities for learners of varying abilities and to meet their needs through the activities and enrichment provided in the Powerpoint presentation. Students would be able to navigate through the lesson without difficulty, regardless of their level of technological proficiency. I believe that by working through the lesson, all students will increase their comfort level of using a tool such as the PowerPoint and accessing the different resources available through it. It also gives options for remediation or enrichment activities in addition to the main lesson.

Developing the lessons for GILT 515 also required that I assess learner needs and provide accommodations for several hearing impaired students as well as non-native English speaking students.
