This board game, made to teach clients about climate inevitabilities and their potential impacts on geo-politics, plays out in a brand-war between two super powers. It is designed around Thomas P. Barnett’s book “America’s New Map”.
Game Elements
Game elements were designed alongside the board shown above, including player dashboards, event cards, and capture cards. These elements allows for a story to develop as content layers teach about cliate realities shaping world orders over the course of decades to come.
Prototypes
Version 1 (top left)Countries competing for finite resources based on national KPISs wasn’t creating compelling game mechanics. This version was completely scrapped after proof of concept failed during testing.
Version 2 (bottom left) Landing on a knock-out relationship between power strategies, this MVP maps out the basics of the game play and was tested with staff, and led to a higher fidelity model.
Version 3 (right)I worked with a design team to build this iteration, adding in elements to stream line user experience and clarify the game sequence. Then we tested it with geopolitical experts.
Testing
We test played with a variety of groups including coworkers, friends, and geo-political strategists from DoD consultants, former navy vets, military academy professors, and business professionals.
