Private lessons offer a unique and valuable opportunity for personalized learning. The one-on-one teacher-student relationship allows me to tailor each lesson to the student’s strengths, challenges, and individual goals. This close connection fosters trust, encourages growth, and helps build both musical skills and confidence.
For those with back-to-back lessons, I also offer weekly buddy groups. These small group sessions provide time for fun, collaborative learning, and peer interaction. Students can play games, work on duets, and practice performing in front of each other. This combination of private and buddy lessons ensures a well-rounded musical experience.
Twice a year, I host fun and engaging studio recitals that provide students with the opportunity to showcase their progress and confidence. These events feature a combination of solo performances and group activities, such as piano ensembles and rhythm cup or boomwhacker ensembles performed by student groups.
Students also participate in a unique compliment card activity, where they write encouraging notes for each performer. This fosters a supportive and positive environment that helps build confidence and community among the students.
These recitals are designed to be a celebration of each student’s hard work, creativity, and growth. They are a wonderful way for students to share their musical journey with family and friends.
To keep students motivated and recognize their hard work, I offer a variety of studio challenges and reward programs. These challenges encourage consistent practice, skill development, and goal achievement in a fun and supportive way. As students complete different milestones and challenges, they can earn exciting rewards that celebrate their dedication and progress.
These programs are designed to foster a sense of accomplishment and inspire students to push their boundaries, all while making the learning process more enjoyable.
In addition to private lessons, all students are part of a peer group that meets several times throughout the school year. Private music study can sometimes feel isolating, so these group sessions help students know they are part of a larger, supportive musical community. These group sessions are designed to be fun and educational, featuring activities like music games, composer studies, and performance practice opportunities in a supportive, low-pressure environment.
Students look forward to these group weeks as a chance to connect with their peers, learn collaboratively, and gain confidence in their performance skills. During these weeks, group activities replace all regularly scheduled private lessons, providing a fresh and engaging way for students to grow as musicians.
My students have access to my extensive library of piano music and games, offering a variety of materials to enhance their learning and keep lessons fun. Additionally, each student receives an account to Supersonics Plus, which provides an extensive library of music and backing tracks. These resources offer students even more opportunities to practice, play along with accompaniments, and explore different musical styles.
