I took the "Social Media Addiction" survey, and I realize that I might be close to becoming addicted to social media as stated by the results that mention:
"You might not be 100% addicted (yet!), but you definitely need to evaluate how much time you're spending scrolling on your social media accounts. It may not be making you happy. One study by Facebook of teen Instagram users in the US and UK found more than 40% of those who reported feeling “unattractive” said the feelings start ed when using Instagram. It's a good time to start thinking about decluttering your digital life through a social media and digital detox!" I believe I need to spend less time on social media as well, due to it being one of the partial reasons for work procrastination and sometimes a short attention span towards work.
I found out that older Minorities are more likely to use the internet more and develop social media addictions. I chose these statistics because they directly relate to me since I'm an older minority who constantly uses the internet within the older teen range
Social media has affected society positively and negatively because social media is a place where people can make new friends, share their talents and interests with other people, while being able to freely express mostly in any way possible, like I have through social media platforms like Discord and Twitter. With the positives, there are also negatives to social media's impact on society, like Cyberbullying, Desensitization to negative behavior and practices, and social media addiction.
Lessons I learned are that I spend a lot of time on social media, leaning towards addiction, and that I should detox from social media by practicing more restraint with using social media and technology by occupying myself with other activities I enjoy, like planting, and exercising.
