In this project I had to research 2 valid news stories In Google News related to cybersecurity concerns and threats towards companies, famous people, etc. and create a report and summary on what I found. I also took a training course on cyber security and internet saftey to earn a completion certificate.
In the article it mentions how a bug in ChatGPT, discovered in September 2023, called CVE-2024-27564 which negatively affects a file in ChatGPT's software that allows hackers to inject maliciously made URLs into the URL parameter forcing ChatGPT to execute their commands. As a result, many cybersecurity attacks that came from one I.P were targeted towards British, German, Thailand, Indonesian, Colombian, and Mainly American government institutions.

This article shares that, a security awareness leader known as KnowBe4 made a report on Phishing in 2025, and trends show that Phishing and other computer virus related attacks have increased by 57.9% mostly through AI generated methods that allow them to bypass traditional cybersecurity defenses and disguising as trusted companies like Google, Amazon, and Primarily Microsoft. The compromised accounts of many including one's associated with engineering roles being used to exploit their access to very important information, which will help them continue the cycle.

In this unit I learned about how to defend against cyber-attacks like Phishing, Ransomware, Malware, and more through the cybersecurity certification lessons. I also learned that Cyberattacks are becoming more common again in 2025 mainly through the exploitation of weaknesses and bugs in programs and websites, to bypass security and repeat the cycle of cyberattacks.
