Key management protocols in the context of IoT

Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm makes billions of our everyday life objects part of the Internet. This interconnection generates a huge amount of private data, which needs to be processed, transferred, and stored. Using classical security solutions to ensure data confidentiality in this context is challenging. In fact, these solutions have to deal with high scalability requirements, heterogeneity of the involved building blocks, in addition to resources scarcity of the embedded devices . In my research activities, i investigate the issue of designing secure key management protocols while taking into consideration IoT specificities. I proceed by studying the IoT concept, its applications, along with the different architectures and communication protocols. These latter are at the basis of any security protocol deployment. I pay a particular attention analyzing the existing state of the art approaches. Relying on the detected shortcomings, i propose ideas and solutions to design secure and energy-aware key management protocols to address the issue of establishing secure communication channels between IoT entities. Several articles have been published at an international level to disseminate the obtained results.

I have been involved in the OpenPaaS::NG project which aims to develop next generation cloud enabled virtual desktops based on Enterprise Social Network concepts. The goal is to provide advanced collaborative and recommendation services, such as real-time edition of documents, spreadsheets, presentations and business processes. More precisely, i have been involved in the design of secure solutions to manage group cryptographic keys for collaborative editing entities.
