Leadership Impact
Student Level: Mr. Quinteros gave recently arrived immigrant students a voice by publishing an inquiry project highlighting the stories and needs of recently arrived families. This inquiry turned into an action plan that used the voices of students and parents to bring greater equity to Barringer High School. (See standard 3 Project 2 and Standard 5 Project)
Teacher Level: Mr. Quinteros worked with teachers to analyze curriculum and think of ways of making it more culturally relevant while giving more attention to black and brown history as mandated by New Jersey's Amistad Law. (See standard 3 Project 1) He also took on the role of Teacher Lead for the History Department, helping to facilitate PLC's and create opportunities for collaboration within the department.
School Level: Mr. Quinteros helped form and update the school's mission and vision. He provided the district with an overview of the school's culture and climate while using data to help craft a more relevant mission. He then used this mission to update the school's Freshman Academy Norms and Expectations. (See Standard 1 Project)
Parent/Family Level: Mr. Quinteros helped start the district's first ever Summer Enrichment program at the number 1 rated high school in Newark: Science Park. In this program he collaborated with parents and community partners to provide enrichment and paid internships using parent and student feedback. (See Standard 8 Video Project)
Community/State Level: Mr. Quinteros partnered with his district and Montclair State University to work on a doctoral project “Start by Listening to Their Stories”: Storying the Ascent of Male School Leaders of Color Through Co-Autoethnography. This project was invited to be presented at the American Educational Research Association Annual Conference in the city of Philadelphia and has the potential to bring a deeper level of educational equity to the school leadership realm both at a state and national level. It provides real stories to the struggles men of color face while rising up to become educational leaders at all levels. (Standard 3, see ART below)
National/International Level: On February 12, 2025 Mr. Quinteros partnered EdPrepLab.org to be a panelist for one of their global webinar events called World Cafe; Transforming Teacher Education—Creating Meaningful Partnerships and Communities in Educator Preparation. The event was moderated by Xiu Cravens from Vanderbilt University, and his co-panelist was professor Nadine Petersen of the University of Johannesburg, Larissa McLean Davies if the University of Melbourne, and Wilisha Scaife and Eva Zygmunt of Ball State University. Mr. Quinteros and the panel discussed the role of strong, reciprocal partnerships in teacher preparation, emphasizing the need for trust, mentorship, and consistent engagement. Their conversation highlighted strategies for sustaining partnerships and explored the importance of professional learning communities, equity, and social-emotional learning in supporting both pre- and in-service teachers. Mr. Quinteros contributions as a teacher leader in this event impacted university deans and educational program directors around the globe. There were over 45 countries present at the event.
