By popular request, Guernsey Tides for your Calendars is now available for 2024  !!

For those of you who may not have seen this, I have created a calendar which you can view alongside your own calendar with the daily times and heights of the tide so that the tide times are shown mixed in with your own calendar appointments but can be switched on and off as necessary.

Here's what it looks like on my calendar:

To subscribe to the Tides Calendar, please click here

The Tide info can be toggled on and off in different ways depending on your calendar i.e  Google, Apple, Outlook etc. but works with all of them. (Please read here about how calendar subscription works if you're not sure)

Printable tide info for your wall or fridge door?

If you just want to view the tides month by month on a web page then click here. This can be handy to print out and stick on the fridge etc.

Pier Heights Chart

The popular Pier Heights Chart is of course still ticking over, enabling you to see the time at which various piers and steps cover and uncover as the tide changes. This renews daily at midnight and has a number of straight lines indicating various locations at various heights together with today’s tide in the form of a wave. Where the wave intersects with your chosen location, look at the bottom of the chart and it shows the time at which this will happen.

The raw information is supplied by Digimap so grateful thanks to the chaps there!

The link for the Pier Heights Chart is here

Think about saving it as a shortcut on your home screen eh.

Qi Codes

Another little project which was started around three years ago together with a computer boffin friend of mine is Qi Codes. A very Guernsey way of describing your location to others in a non digital way.  For example, do you enjoy swimming at ‘bongo cable’ – I know I do !

Covering the whole island in 5m squares with only two (simple) words, Qi Codes is totally free and just uses a browser where qi.gg is what you need to type into the address bar. Two words and you’re there eh!

Why not start to use this so that your friends will know exactly where you will be swimming!

Click here to see what your own Qi Code is !

Thank you for taking an interest in my crazy ideas and, for those of you who think that I perhaps need to ‘get out more,’ I promise you that I do swim too. Generally just weekends during the winter but almost daily in the summer where Rousse and Bordeaux are among my favourites (I’m a northern boy eh)!
