Transgender is an umbrella term for people whose gender identity does not match the one assigned at birth. Created by Monica Helms in 1999, pink represents the traditional colors used for girls, blue represents the traditional colors used for boys, and white represents the transition period and people who identify as intersex or gender-neutral (The Gender and Sexuality Resource Center, 2023).
