Intersex refers to a person born with female and male biological traits. This can vary depending on hormones, reproductive anatomy, physical sex characteristics, and genetic variance. The flag was adopted in 2013. Purple and yellow represent the alternative to the gender binary, and the purple circle represents wholeness and completeness (Intersex Human Rights Australia, 2013).
