OUR HISTORY

The idea for a queer birding group started back in March 2023 when Jeff and Meng​ went birding at Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge. We wanted to share our love for birding and the outdoors with other queer people. The purpose of the group was to create a safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community to bird and connect (we’re definitely a birding social group hence the name Queer Flockers). ​

Birding hasn’t always been the most inclusive or welcoming​, and we wanted to be part of that change. ​Along the way​, we have met and connected with other wonderful birding groups such as Feminist Bird Club of Portland and BirdHers. We are by no means ​​experts and welcome birders of all skill levels to join with us. At least once a month​, we bird across the Portland metro region​.
