"ABOUT THE FOUNDER"
Willis Perry - Executive Director/Founder
With over 31 years of experience in education, I have dedicated my career to ensuring that every student entrusted to my care receives the highest level of academic and social-emotional support. My work has always been guided by one belief: when students are challenged, supported, and inspired, they rise to greatness—both in the classroom and beyond.
After earning my B.A. from Adelphi University in 1994, I began my teaching career in Brooklyn and Hempstead, where I implemented programs centered on equity, access, and opportunity for all learners. Those early experiences led me to an administrative role as Assistant Principal at Scholars’ Academy in Rockaway Park, Queens—the very school I attended as a child. Returning to lead my former middle school was deeply personal; it allowed me to give back to the community that shaped who I am. Within four years, we transformed Scholars’ Academy into a thriving hub of academic excellence and community pride.
I later became Principal of the Middle School of Science in Brooklyn, where we built a strong culture around academics, STEM enrichment, and extracurricular engagement. Together, my team and I raised attendance rates, reduced behavioral incidents, and established a safe and inclusive environment that made families feel confident in public education again.
For the past 13 years, I have proudly served as Principal of Lawrence Middle School and now Lawrence Elementary, guiding students as they grow academically, socially, and emotionally. I’ve also been honored to serve as an adjunct professor for over 18 years at institutions including The College of St. Rose, Russell Sage College, SJNY and Touro College through the Center for Integrated Training & Education (CITE)—helping to prepare the next generation of educational leaders.
A Lifelong Passion for Basketball and Youth Development
Basketball has always been a driving force in my life. As a former Adelphi University lead guard and team captain, I learned the importance of leadership, discipline, and teamwork—values I carry into everything I do. I’m also a proud father of two sons who have followed their passions both on and off the court:
Elijah, a Division I & II scholarship athlete who played for Rider and Adelphi and now works in finance at one the worlds top firms.
Luke, a student at St. John’s University and team manager for the men’s basketball program, who previously played and was an impact player for Christ the King High School.
Beyond the classroom, I’ve serve as H.S Outreach Director for Rising Stars Educational Foundation, where we use basketball as a vehicle for education, mentorship, and opportunity. Through this work, we’ve helped hundreds of student-athletes reach their college dreams and develop life skills that extend far beyond sports.
Quality Athletes Inc. & QA Academy
As the Executive Director and Founder of Quality Athletes Inc., my mission is to create educational and athletic pathways that empower student-athletes—locally and internationally—to reach their full potential. Our work includes:
