Interactive Exercise 1:
How Can We Make This More Inclusive?

Welcome to your first activity! In this exercise, you’ll review program materials and practice making suggestions to improve them so that they are more inclusive of people of diverse backgrounds.

Instructions:

1. Watch and Read:

   • Start by watching the video case study: [Suggested Media: A 2-minute clip showcasing a QUADS success story.].

   • Read the discussion prompts and case study here: Padlet Board

2. Think About Inclusivity:

   • Use the worksheet [Suggested Media: A checklist of “What Makes Materials Inclusive?” to guide you.] to evaluate the materials. Ask yourself:

     • Are different perspectives and experiences included?

     • Could the materials feel more relatable or welcoming to others?

3. Share Your Suggestions:

   • Write a short response (about 2–3 sentences) with ideas for improvement on the Padlet Board. 

   • Remember to be specific in your suggestions.

4. Collaborate with Fellow New Mentors:

   • After submitting your response, review two of your peers’ submissions.

   • Comment on their suggestions by responding to these prompts:

     • “This is a great idea because…”

     • “You could also consider…”
