Postdoctoral researcher position in quantum matter theory

The Institute of Physics, Academia Sinica (IoP, AS) in Taiwan invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position in quantum matter theory. The research topics cover quantum phenomena and quantum matter in various nanoscale systems, including quantum wires, nanotubes, two-dimensional van der Waals structures, topological insulators and superconductors, strongly correlated systems, as well as disordered systems and mesoscopic physics. Any candidates interested in these topics are welcome to apply.

Candidates must hold Ph.D. degree in Physics or related fields by the starting date. In addition, the successful candidate should demonstrate solid scientific background in the area of study and ability to effectively conduct independent research under the mentorship of IoP faculty. The starting date is flexible, but preferably not much later than 2024 summer

To apply, please submit the following documents to quantummattertheory_[at]_gmail.com or chenhsuan_[at]_gate.sinica.edu.tw with the title “IoP postdoctoral position [Applicant’s full name]”.

(a) a cover letter

(b) a CV (including a complete list of publications and contact information of two references)

(c) a brief statement of research achievements and interests (no more than three pages)

[Note] Only applications following the specified format will be considered. It is anticipated that individuals possessing PhD degrees will have the capability to follow straightforward instructions; therefore, submissions that fail to meet these guidelines will not receive any response.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview and be asked to arrange for at least two letters of reference to be sent directly by the references. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled; however, to receive full consideration, we strongly encourage candidates to submit their applications as early as possible.

For any inquiries regarding the application, interested candidates may contact Dr. Chen-Hsuan Hsu by email: quantummattertheory_[at]_gmail.com  or chenhsuan_[at]_gate.sinica.edu.tw.

Research assistant positions

We also welcome research assistants (preferably holding a Master degree) to join our group. This position is particularly suitable for those who are considering applying to PhD program abroad. The starting date is flexible, but we encourage successful candidates to start as soon as possible.

To apply, please submit the following documents to quantummattertheory_[at]_gmail.com or chenhsuan_[at]_gate.sinica.edu.tw with the title “IoP research assistant position [Applicant’s full name]”.

(a) Cover Letter: Describe your interest in the position and how your skills align with the research objectives.

(b) Curriculum Vitae (CV): Include a complete list of publications and contact information for at least one reference.

(c) Academic transcripts and certificates of your Bachelor's and Master's degrees.

(d) Electronic file of your thesis, if available.

[Note] Only applications following the specified format will be considered; submissions that do not meet these guidelines will not receive any response.

For interested candidates, please feel free to contact Dr. Chen-Hsuan Hsu by email: quantummattertheory_[at]_gmail.com  or chenhsuan_[at]_gate.sinica.edu.tw.

Internship positions

We welcome undergraduate students to join us for their internship through the Summer Student Research Program sponsored by Institute of Physics, AS. This program aims to provide undergraduate students with a unique opportunity to work alongside physicists, contribute to ongoing projects, and immerse themselves in the world of advanced research. The standard stipend during the internship period (July - August) is NT$ 20,000 per month.

Given the limited availability of funded positions, applicants must meet the following criteria:

(a) Candidates must have completed full undergraduate courses in quantum mechanics before starting the internship.

(b) Selected interns should be open to continuing with their project(s) after the conclusion of the Summer Student Research Program. Pending satisfactory performance during the internship, stipends ranging from NT$ 5,000 to $ 10,000 per month will be available after August.

(c) Selected interns should be able to work with other group members.

(d) Preference will be given to those who aim to have a career in academia

For students who meet these criteria and are interested in this opportunity, further details can be found at https://www.phys.sinica.edu.tw/~summer/. Applications are typically accepted from March to April each year. Before initiating the online application process, applicants must first email to quantummattertheory_[at]_gmail.com between March 15th and one week before the application deadline (April 9th for the 2024 application). The subject of the email should be "IoP Summer Internship [Your Full Name]" and the following documents should be included:

(a) A cover letter detailing your motivation, skills, and areas of research interest.

(b) Your most recent semester/quarter transcript.

[Note] Ensure to strictly adhere to the provided format. Only applications that follow the specified guidelines will be considered, and submissions that fail to meet these guidelines will not receive any response.
