General guidelines for any positions in the Quantum Matter Theory Group
This guidance outlines our expectations for prospective members and ensures that their interests, career plans, and commitments align with our requirements:
Given the limited number of opportunities, we prioritize candidates who are firmly committed to pursuing an academic career. A vague answer such as “Maybe I will stay in academia” is not sufficient.
Candidates must ensure that their interests, experience, and skills in programming or calculations align with our research. Completion of full undergraduate-level quantum mechanics courses is required before joining. For PhD student or postdoctoral candidates, knowledge of quantum field theory is also expected.
Candidates for assistant, student, or internship positions must ensure that joining our group is their top priority. If you are currently applying for other positions or considering alternative plans, please do not contact us. This can save time both both parties.
Candidates should be able to collaborate with group members while also demonstrating independence.
Everyone interested in any of the available positions and meet the above guidelines is welcome to follow the instructions below to apply for a specific position. The application email should explicitly address each of the listed criteria. Applications that do not meet these guidelines will not receive any response.
Note that typical members must stay for at least six months before they can acquire a recommendation letter for their future references. For exceptional persons who achieve substantial results, it is possible to request a letter after three or four months.
Postdoctoral Researcher positions
The Institute of Physics, Academia Sinica (IoP, AS) in Taiwan invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position in Quantum Matter Theory. The research topics cover quantum phenomena and quantum matter in various nanoscale systems, including quantum wires, nanotubes, two-dimensional van der Waals structures, topological insulators and superconductors, strongly correlated systems, as well as disordered systems and mesoscopic physics. Any candidates interested in these topics are welcome to apply.
For postdoctoral positions, we expect expertise or prior experience with analytical methods. Please note that approaches limited to data fitting or the use of existing packages or commercial software do not meet our expectations, as we have found them inadequate in past projects.

Research Assistant positions
We also welcome research assistants (either holding a Bachelor or Master degree) to join our group. This position is particularly suitable for those who are considering applying to PhD program abroad. The starting date is flexible, but we encourage successful candidates to start as soon as possible.
For details, see https://sites.google.com/view/qmtheory/job-openings/research-assistants.
PhD or Master Student positions
We welcome PhD and Master students to join our group.
For details, see https://sites.google.com/view/qmtheory/job-openings/phd-or-master-students.
Undergrad student trainee or internship positions
We welcome undergraduate students to join us either as student trainees during semesters or as interns through the Summer Student Research Program sponsored by Institute of Physics, AS.
For details, see https://sites.google.com/view/qmtheory/job-openings/undergrad-students.
