I am the first in my family to study abroad and pursue a career in academia. Before I joined the PhD program at the University of Florida, I worked as a journalist and editor in China at Jinjiang Economy News, Fujian Daily Press Group (2007-2011), and City Express, Hangzhou Daily Press Group (2011-2015). My focus shifted from local news to China news and international news.
I am interested in gardening, permaculture, community building, and the connection between food and politics. I served as the Vice President of the UF Ethnoecology Society (2020-2021). Ethnoecology is the study of the dynamic relationships between people and their natural environment. Since 2016, I have been working in the Ethnoecology Garden, an interactive community that brings together students, faculty and staff, local experts, and people from diverse cultural, ethnic, and racial backgrounds (learn more about the Ethnoecology Garden, Facebook page, Instagram).
