My name is Qingming Huang. I am an Associate Research Fellow at the Institute for Development and Governance, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. I received my PhD from the Department of Political Science at the University of Florida in 2022. I was a Rothman Doctoral Fellow at the Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere at the University of Florida (2021-2022), a Special Researcher (2021-2022), Junior Fellow (2022-2023), and Visiting Scholar (2024-2025) at the Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies at Seoul National University, and an Assistant Research Fellow at the Institute for International Affairs, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (2022-2025).
My research interests include geopolitics, international order and global governance, China’s relations with neighboring countries, and politics in East Asia and Southeast Asia. My dissertation examines how the founding myths of party-states contribute to the resilience of communist regimes in East Asia. My research works have appeared in Journal of Chinese Political Science (SSCI journal, Q1), Problems of Post-Communism (SSCI journal, Q2), Communist and Post-Communist Studies (SSCI journal, Q3), Perspectives on Politics (SSCI journal, Q1), and Monthly SW-Oriented Society (a journal published by Software Policy & Research Institute in South Korea).
I have published two books: a book about autocratic regimes' legitimizing efforts in the Korean Peninsula, North Korea and South Korea: Monopolizing Nationalism in a Divided Peninsula (New York: Bloomsbury Publishing); and a book about community building, Remapping Our Lives: Reviving Communities, Landmarks, and Countryside around the World [in Chinese] (Taipei: Showwe Publisher, co-authored with Tao Lin).
My research projects have been supported by the Academy of Korean Studies, the Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies at Seoul National University, and Korea University in South Korea, as well as the International Center, the Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere, and the Department of Political Science at the University of Florida. I have substantial teaching experience in higher education and working experience in media. I served as a teaching assistant and instructor at the University of Florida (2016-2022). Prior to my Ph.D., I received my BA from the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Xiamen University (2007) and worked as a journalist and editor covering China news and international news (2007-2015).
