Post-doc Fellows

Dr. Tao FENG, Ph.D. Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU), Feb 2024 - August 2025
- Dr. Feng is currently an Assistant Professor at SWJTU. During his 1.5 years at PolyU LMS, we collaborated on two research projects on decision-making under uncertainty, with applications in humanitarian logistics and urban rail operations. The former is currently under major revision at Manufacturing & Service Operations Management (UTD24), while the latter is under major revision at the INFORMS Journal on Computing (UTD24).
Dr. Zhen CAO, Ph.D. Dalian University of Technology (DUT), Mar 2024 -
- During Dr. Cao’s first two years at PolyU LMS, we collaborated on several projects centered on bulk terminal operations optimization, an important yet underexplored area in the maritime transportation. This collaboration resulted in a comprehensive and, to our knowledge, first-of-its-kind literature review on dry bulk terminal operations, as well as a study addressing key challenges in berth allocation; both papers were published in Transportation Research Part C. Dr. Cao has also tackled practical challenges related to flexible commodity blending, with the corresponding paper published at Transportation Research Part B.

- Dr. Xu is currently an Associate Professor at DUT. During her one-year appointment at PolyU, we collaborated on a research project concerning the dry port location problem. The resulting paper is currently under major revision.

Visiting Student

Ms. Linfei GUAN (from Northwestern Polytechnical University), July 2023 - July 2024
- During her one-year visit, we completed two research projects: one on autonomous (container) terminal operations and another on maritime freight market forecasting. These projects resulted in two papers, one published in the International Journal of Production Research and the other in Maritime Policy & Management.

- We collaborated on a project on semi-liner service design, and the manuscript is currently under preparation.

PhD applicants with backgrounds in Sciences (e.g., Math, Physics, Statistics), Engineering (e.g., Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering), or related fields, and with strong academic standing relative to their cohort.
Postdoctoral Fellows with research training in decision-making under uncertainty and/or large-scale combinatorial optimization, with applications in transportation (esp. maritime and port operations), logistics, and supply chain management.
