Below are a few steps you can consider before purchasing or selling. But probably better to ask on the WhatsApp group to engage other people's opinions also.
- Check vehicle history on Metrash2 by entering the Chasis/VIN number, you can find this on the registration card. Note: minor accidents can be simple repairs like scratches and dents, so its normal to see a few of these. Complex accidents you should be more aware of.
- Check the Fahas inspection history using QID and plate number. http://www.fahes.com.qa/r/Inspection/Home#/search
- Best time to buy is May/June as this is usually when people leave the country. Worse time perhaps is Sept/Oct. Basic supply and demand situation here.
- Best resell colors: white, silver and black
- Best resell types of cars: Toyota/Honda/Nissan 4x4 or SUV
- Best to purchase a car that is 3 years old or older, as it has already gone through the big depreciation, from an expat woman if possible, best to be the second or third owner, no crash history - Bearing in mind that it may be difficult to get full insurance for cars that are over 3 or 4 years old (depending on insurer).
- Metrash App - transfer the ownership for 200 QAR then go to traffic headquarters to pick up card that stays in the car.
- You can transfer the insurance over to your name by going to the insurance company. You'll need a no objection letter (just a letter to say they have no issues to transfer) and copy of QID to transfer fully comprehensive. this is not required for 3rd party cover.
- When you sell your car you can do it independently, or give it to a dealer to sell for you
- When buying, you will want to get an inspection to check for previous damage, you can try the garages listed here. There are also German Technical Inspections on Salwa Road. The one that is recommended has a yellow sign on Salwa Road. It may cost between 200-350 QAR, but you can probably bargain on this. But ask on the WhatsApp group as sometime there are better recommendations. This is very common to do and have dedicated garages for it. They provide a report that gives you a breakdown of any problems. Be sure to request an English copy.
