You can rent a car on your approved foreign licence for 7 days, for international licence this will be up to 6 months. Visit the Traffic Department at Madinat Khalifa to check the validity of your home country licence.

Please read your contract carefully. Most companies will not cover natural disasters, Doha can get flooded quite easily and they may end up billing you for damages. Also, check when the service is due to take back in, otherwise they can charge you for not doing so.

Any complaint you have about service or unwarranted charges, try discussing with senior staff member. If that fails, you can report this to the ministry through the link here.

  • Although it may seem like a very good deal, they may end up charging you 3000 QAR as a deposit each month and refunding it if you don't have any accidents. Ask them about this before renting.

UK Car Rental Recommendations (no particular order):

You can rent with your Qatari licence which may save you issues in regards to gaining points. If you use your UK licence, be sure to double check whether you will be covered by the insurance company in case you have an accident as there are issues of being a non-resident, better to get this checked out.

• Turo App - App based Car Rental. Tried and tested. Similar to airbnb but with cars. You can rent out other people's cars for a long or short period. All communication is done via the app, including taking pictures before and after the rental.

• Europcar. Long Term hire. +441162565656. Call them rather then doing it online to get further rate off.
