Stacy Nuñez : Artist Statement

I animate and illustrate digitally. The detailed shapes, vibrant colors, and thick outlines found in my work are inspired by the Saturday morning cartoons of the late 80s and early 90s. These cartoons maintained realistic proportions and features, grounding these characters in a reality that the viewer could relate to while remaining bright and exciting. These shows were capable of delving into worlds and dimensions of fantasy, captivating the audience.

My illustrations and animations depict portraits and caricatures of myself as I interpret the changing relationship I have with my body and mental health. My observations of everyday events and of my own fluctuating emotional health are presented through brilliant colors, comic panels, and exaggerated animated effects. This work relates a message to the viewer, compelling them to explore their own selves in an effort to improve their own emotional wellbeing.
