QUEER FEAR
[of missing out]
[of missing out]
The QUEER FEAR zine is half standard-sized letter :)
(my middle spread babe got cut off in the carousel, so here they are)
Hello! My name's Ali (she/they) and this is my first trip into the zine-making world. This project very quickly turned into a spell of sorts, where I could work my way through some healing and understanding that I hadn't accessed quite yet. I grew up around the Florida-Georgia state line near the Okefenokee swamp and the Ichetucknee River Basin, an area filled with wonderful wild magic, but also not much social room for queer kid growth. The critters in my zine were always around. Some were more elusive than others (like the endangered Florida Panther...she just screamed to me at night from the darkness), but I felt like I always had furry and scaly friends around my dirt-road childhood home. I find myself often exploring my queerness in reverse, thinking of all the little queer bits and pieces that exist in the past, and learning how to forgive myself for not seeing them sooner. I'm exploring some of those emotions here and the anxieties around "missing out" on so many years of living my truth. I hope you enjoy my ~*feelings*~ and I'm looking forward to exploring more through this method of making.
