Discover your character strengths to improve your well-being at work
Nancy Goyette
Work in schools is a real challenge daily. The complexity of the several tasks doesn't help us to build well-being and create, sometimes, negative emotions. The aim of this workshop are to lead you to discover your character strengths and use it in different context of your profession. Contextualized integration activities will be put in place to get to know yourself better. Discussions, sharing of professional experiences and reflections on your strength of character will help you improve your well-being and your passion of working in schools.

Melanie Thompson
This activity will definitely take you out of your comfort zone and have you working with others to reach the goal! The 4X4 activity was developed for a new course to students taking a vocational program in Lennoxville. The objective is to explore employability skills; in other words, soft skills. The 4X4 game will definitely help you answer that question!
The 3 C’s of the future: communication, collaboration and creativity!
Mariam Ugarte
This workshop is an introduction to Improv, a set of theatre games created by Viola Spolin in Chicago in the 60’s. Today, Improv is widely used in business and leadership training. One of its main purpose is to train participants to become more observant of subtle details, encouraging mindful action. The use of Improv promotes self-expression and makes for a more dynamic, playful and authentic environment. In addition, it fosters quick decision making and opens participants to other world views. Improv can be applied to any subject. It is ideal for communication, team building and critical thinking. It combines communication, creativity and collaboration, three essential qualities for students of the future to thrive in today’s world. The main beauty of Improv is that it’s fun, quick, and spontaneous. All that is needed is an open space. It ‘gives participants wings to fly’ as it engages body and mind. The main principle of Improv is ‘Yes, And’. Using “Yes, And” shows acceptance of whatever one’s partner says or does. This behaviour makes participants feel supported and accepted by their peers. Most importantly, it makes everyone a star. In this workshop we will alternate quickly between improv games and discussion of their intent. The main principles of Improv will be briefly explained with emphasis on the most important one. This is an introduction to the use of “Yes, And” as the beginning of a new way of communicating and looking at the world.

Introduction to Mindfulness: Unlock the Power of Your Breath
Michelle Carroll
Mindfulness is a simple yet extremely powerful tool that is making its way to the mainstream, however many of us have yet to investigate this practice. In this experiential workshop, we will define mindfulness and explore various controlled breathing techniques and their benefits in the ways of resilience, stress management and self-awareness. These techniques can easily be transposed and practiced in our regular lives, as well as those of our students. You will also be guided through what is known as a yoga nidra - a state of consciousness between wakefulness and sleep - which can be practiced by anyone, from children to seniors, and that research shows may induce a state of deep relaxation and rest.
Our Journey into Flexible Learning Spaces
Avi Spector
A competency-based approach requires that our students are able to work collaboratively, think critically and problem-solve efficiently. One way we are tackling this in Adult General Education (AGE) is through Flexible Learning Spaces. Changing classroom our spaces needs to be well thought-out and intentional. More than just adding furniture into a classroom, a classroom should be redesigned to allow multiple ways of teaching and learning. This presentation/discussion will focus on our journey into Flexible Spaces in AGE, in particular at the ACCESS Centres with the Riverside School Board. Can this approach also apply to a vocational context? What are some small changes we can start making that might help? Let’s talk!
What Universal Design for Learning means for us and our students
Tracy Rosen
We spend a lot of time in our classroom helping our weaker students succeed. What if we planned our courses from the start so that the largest number of students possible had access to their learning? That is where Universal Design for Learning (UDL) comes into play. Sometimes the smallest changes make huge differences - join me to talk about how UDL can help us make those changes real for our students...and us!

Thinking out of the Box!
Jean Bouchard
I have tried and tested a large scope of Board Games from my very young age through my adulthood. When I wasn't playing Board Games with my family and friends, I was creating a few!
Board Games are the perfect Plan B activity when technology fails, or is not available. In the era of people glued on their cell phones, popping out a Board game from its box can become a surprisingly refreshing activity! This workshop is intended to educators in identifying the criteria for selecting a Board Game for families or classes, avoiding the mistakes of selecting a game that could seclude participants rather than bringing them together.
And yes, we'll try a few!
