On the Pyrites, we pride ourselves in the multiple service projects we complete during and off the FTC season. Each year we work with multiple girl and boy scout troops to teach them robotics and help them find an interest in STEM at a young age. We also mentor FLL teams including St. David's new FLL team from our robotics summer camp.
In 2022, one of our captains, Anna Priore, created a 2-week summer camp at St. Bonaventure and St. David. Students created their own robots to compete against each other, practiced FLL projects with a mock-judging session, and did team-building projects together at the camp. As a result of the summer camp, St. David began their very own FLL team with multiple students who participated in the camp coming back for the FLL season!
In 2021, one of our captains, Emma Coronado, organized with a local girl scout troop from Camp Mahachee to earn their robotics badge. At the camp, girls participated in fun robotics games and were given a presentation about robotics.
