If I am in band, can I also play sports?
YES! The band director and coaches work together to allow students to participate in both activities. You do not have to choose one or the other!
If I am in band, can I also belong to other student clubs?
YES! If you can think of a club, organization, sports team, or extra-curricular activity on our campus, you will most likely find another PVHS Band member participating as well. Band is just like any other class at PVHS.
I'm not sure whether I will like band or not. What should I do?
All students are encouraged to - at the very least - try band for the summer band practices. If you feel that you don't like it, there is no obligation to stay in.
Can I be in band all four years?
Yes! You only need 24 credits to graduate, and band does count as a fine arts, P.E. , and elective credits, all of which you need for graduation and TOPS. And since we are on a 4x4 block, you will get to take band all year while fulfilling requirements in other areas, allowing you to maximize your elective choices.
Wil being in band have a NEGATIVE effect on my grades?
NO! As a matter of fact, most of the students in band are in the top of their classes. Research has shown that the extra time you spend in band not only helps you build your musical skills, but also makes you smarter in math, science, and English!
Band Parents
Make your child responsible for being prepared. Announcements (during class or after rehearsal) will be made regularly about schedules, events and all the items/things your child will need. ASK THEM ABOUT THESE!
SIGN UP to chaperone or help! Extra hands are always needed!
Network - Get to know your fellow band parents (many will have helpful hints)
Carpool to competitions and games when parent busses aren't available.
Band Camp and Outside Rehearsal
HYDRATE! We will be outside and we will be physically active. Prepare your body by intaking enough water BEFORE rehearsal.
ALWAYS HAVE A WATER BOTTLE! A large refillable water bottle is best.
DRESS APPROPRIATELY! Athletic clothing (shorts, t-shirts, loose clothing), athletic shoes, hats, sunglasses and SUNSCREEN!
FOOD and NUTRITION! Eat before rehearsals. Meals with sustaining protein and energy-laden carbs are best. Avoid sugary snacks and dairy products.
ACCLIMATE TO HEAT! Do not let 1st day of camp or outside rehearsal be the first time you are outside all summer! Start with a few hours of walking or other outdoor activity in June to help condition for the July/August heat.
