Operation SONshine is a non profit organization helping feed the homeless in our community. We set out a goal to collect 10,000 Zip-lock bags to feed the homeless and we crushed the goal collecting over 12,500 Zip-lock bags feeding hundreds of homeless people in our city!
Roger L. Putnam Vocational Technical Academy’s Skills USA collected can tabs for Shriners Hospital as the last community service project of this school year. The can tabs are sold to a recycling company and the money collected is used to fund transportation for needy children to and from Shriners Hospitals. Shriners Hospitals for Children is a health care system of 22 hospitals dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing pediatric specialty care, innovative research, and outstanding teaching programs for medical professionals.
Putnam Skills USA supported our class president of 2019, Rachael Jewell, in her fight with MS at the Multiple Sclerosis awareness walk on May 5, 2019. With every step we take and every dollar we raise we're that much closer to ending MS!
Teachers at William DeBerry Elementary School and Putnam Senior, Shayla Perez, supported SkillsUSA by purchasing Putnam Cares Autism Awareness t-shirts. Great pictures. We thank them for their support!
Each year it is estimated that over 220,000 women in the united states will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will die.
The breast cancer ribbon has become the universal symbol of breast cancer, illustrating the cause, raising awareness and bringing together women in solidarity. From a simple piece of ribbon affixed with a pin, we are able to show our support for loved ones battling breast cancer and our hope for a brighter future. SkillsUSA sold Breast Cancer Awareness Ribbons during all Lunches and during Open House! All proceeds went to The National Breast Cancer Foundation!
Skills USA CoPresident (2018-2019), Lucia Rodriguez, was the MC at the Girls in Trade Conference at STCC. Lucia is seen here with Putnam SkillsUSA members, Lt. Governor Karyn Polito, and Mayor of Springfield Domenic Sarno.
Skills USA Secretary (2019-2020), Arianah Rivera was the MC at the girls in Trade Conference and career Fair at Pathfinder. Also Joining her is Parliamentarian Felicity George, Jamile DeJesus, and Karolina Kaczor who in her sophomore year went to Nationals and placed 4th in the country in the Mechatronics competition.
The SkillsUSA Framework illustrates how students fulfill the mission of the organization “to empower members to become world-class workers, leaders and responsible American citizens.”
